For over 30 years, Lance Belsome has represented plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts in disputes involving business and real estate transactions, lender liability, publication torts, fiduciary and professional liability, technology and motion picture rights, employment and civil rights.

 

This practice has involved extensive international discovery and investigation for clients in the United States and abroad, including England, Russia, Sweden, Mexico and the Republic of China, Taiwan.

 

Representative litigation on behalf of plaintiffs includes recovery of $6 million for a U.S. citizen wrongfully prosecuted in Mexico after defamatory publications falsely implicated him in the murder of a business partner; recovery of $1.4 million for a California home builder upon claims of deceptive lending practices by a construction lender; recovery for a Southeast Asian defense contractor upon claims of fraud in the sale of military communications equipment; and multiple judgments or recoveries in litigation involving civil rights, abuse of elders and dependent adults, lender liability, professional liability, fraudulent conveyances, personal injury and wrongful death.

 

Representative litigation on behalf of defendants includes a defense verdict on claims under a Chinese-language contract (requiring evidence of legal customs and linguistics in the Republic of China), a defense judgment on claims under an alleged contract to sell a media buying firm, a California appellate court decision for property owners in Americans with Disabilities Act litigation; and multiple defense judgments or dismissals in contract, real estate and other commercial disputes.

 

Representative transactions include real estate development, professional athlete endorsements, medical instrument manufacturing and purchase and sale of telecommunications and broadcasting companies.
